The Gabrieli Choir
István Herényi

István is a mathematician, but mainly works as a computer programmer. His musical education began at the age of 5, and included tuition in violin, dulcimer, and recorder. He also played a variety of instruments with the Musica Antiqua Hungarica Renaissance ensemble, and sang both bass and alto.
István has had a very broad experience of singing, and particularly enjoys doing so a cappella. He has sung with several choirs, notably the Collegium Musicum boys’ choir (under Gábor Ugrin and Miklós Takács), the Deák Tér Lutheran Church Choir (directed by Kamp Salamon), the National Széchényi Library Ensemble (under Mária Eckhardt), the Budapest Madrigal Choir (directed by Ferenc Szekeres), and the Hungarian Radio Choir (under Ferenc Sapszon).
István has sung numerous modern pieces with the Csili Ensemble (directed by Anikó Zakariás), but generally prefers Renaissance and Baroque music. He has also been conducted by János Ferencsik, András Kóródi, György Lehel, Vlagyimir Fedoszejev, Jurij Szimonov, and Helmuth Rilling.
