The Gabrieli Choir
Christmas Concert, 2006
The Gabrieli Choir’s Christmas Concert will be on Saturday 16th December, 2006, in St. Stephen’s Basilica, Budapest. The main work will be the first performance in Hungary of the Son of God Mass by James Whitbourn. This is a bold new setting of the Latin Mass from a talented young English composer, scored for choir, organ and soprano saxophone. The Gabrieli Choir will be conducted by Richárd Sólyom and the Angster organ will be played by László Gesztesi-Tóth. The saxophone soloist will be Kristóf Bacsó. The concert will begin with motets by Francisco Guerrero, Giovanni Gabrieli, Herbert Howells and John Tavener, and the first half will conclude with László Gesztesi-Tóth playing his own organ improvisation to the Choir singing a Gregorian Magnificat. The concert starts at 7.30 p.m.; admission is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted.
