Phoenix Organs
The
Gabrieli Choir is proud to be associated with Phoenix Organs, manufacturer of individually
designed, custom built digital church organs.
Phoenix Organs was formed in 2001 by two British
engineers who were also church organists. They recognized that advancements in
digital technology had made it possible to construct a digital organ
considerably superior to what was at that time generally available. The result
is an extremely well built and competitively priced instrument, which, most
importantly, comes the closest anyone has yet to simulating the sound of a
traditional pipe organ.
Phoenix instruments
are the most flexible available today. Since every one is custom built to the
detailed specifications of the client, no two are alike. Even after
installation, the organ’s voicing can easily be modified to take into account
the vagaries of the acoustics that present themselves in every church and
concert hall. The technology is based on sound sampling, and Phoenix have compiled a library of several
thousand recordings of the finest pipe organs from all over Europe. This affords clients not only an
enormous degree of choice over how their new instrument is going to sound, but
also, thanks to the flexibility of the design, the option to change or add
extra ranks, even years later.
There are Phoenix
organs in cathedrals, churches, schools, concert halls and private homes all
over the British Isles and North
America. A European division recently opened here in Budapest under the direction of László
Gesztesi-Tóth, so now organists in Hungary, as well as further
afield in Europe, can discover the joys of playing a Phoenix
instrument.
